Flag Officers Friday Newsletter
Welcome to the Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club Friday newsletter.
Yesterday the Tremadog Bay Pop up Regatta got underway, with racing organised for both IRC 1 and 2 Racers and NHC Cruisers, representing a wide spectrum of boats and up to 100 members taking part as crew or shore based supporters.
The regatta was devised by our race captain Vicky Cox, assisted by the club racing committee and flag officers, to fill the gap left by the cancellation of the Volvo Dun Laoghaire regatta. We wish all competitors and crew a great weekend's sailing. Further information is in the racing section below, where the skippers newsletter is posted.
There is a social programme arranged in Plas Heli, with some special catering offerings and a live band tonight -the Jac Dobson a'r band, and all are welcome.
it will be wonderful to see members from all sections of the club on the water and/or in Plas Heli this weekend.
Congratulations to Andrew Hall (Jackknife) - winning the Lyver Race last weekend (Liverpool to Pwllheli), and well done to Peter Dunlop and Vicky Cox (Mojito) Mark Thompson (Jac Y Do) and Paul Kitteringham (Finally) for completing the tough 120 mile race

Message from Stephen Williams Darling XX
Weather has been fantastic recently and summer is in full swing. The ‘Pop Up Regatta’ takes place 8th to 11th July. There is no need to enter all the races and reduced fees apply for 2 day entry. An NHC Class will be run for cruisers or shorthanded IRC boats. The race officer will set courses to suit the entrants with the emphasis upon keeping the sailing fun and not too taxing. Already we have interest and I hope to see as many as possible boats out. If you can’t get your own boat out then consider crewing for someone else. I am sure there will be crew spaces available. Bring friends and family as there is no need to be experienced to join in the fun.
I am donating a prize a bottle of rum for the second to last boat in the series. That means there is always a reason to keep going. Good luck everyone and I hope to see you out sailing.’

Dear Competitor
Thank-you for entering the Treamadog Bay Pop up Regatta, which is intended to be run as an informal fun event with a competitive edge, and an opportunity to socialise after racing, consistent with the current restrictions. The event will run in a broadly similar way to that of the Autumn Series, a format which many are familiar with.
Please find below information which will hopefully be useful, and we wish you all a fun Regatta

Social
We have organised a live band for the Friday social event, and the catering offerings (by the Panorama Bar and lounge) are detailed below:
Thursday - Chilli Night
Friday - Hog roast and Live band - Jac Dobson a’r band - weather dependent on the deck.
Saturday - Caribbean Lamb Curry
Sunday - Carvery Dinner
Each social event will have vegetarian options, including a Vegan Chilli, and Veg Lasagane
The top deck is available for members and guests to enjoy, providing refreshments are obtained from the bar, and the area left clean and tidy - a nice place to socialise with stunning views, in addition to the other two decks on the first floor.
Communication
The official notice board for the event will be a WhatsApp group called “Pop up Regatta notice board”
It’s not a chat group - plenty of other places for that, but somewhere for us to post messages/courses/results etc or for you to ask racing relevant questions, which we will attempt to answer as quickly as possible, consistent with the volunteer organisation workload.
Racing Information.
All mark positions, fixed courses are published on the Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club Website, in the racing section here (ST please insert link
It would be very helpful if everyone could carry a copy of the the fixed courses on board to reduce our Race officers workload reading out courses, particularly as he is dealing with multiple classes.
Note with kind permission of SCYC we may also use the following marks:
Tom Buoy
SCYC NE
SCYC. E
The positions are all online in the racing section as detailed above.

Prize Giving
There will be no daily prize giving, but results will be published online, and on the WhatsApp group. Jugs of beer for daily prizes may be delivered to lucky recipients!
On the Sunday we will hold a final prize-giving, to handout some daily prizes, plus the overall prizes and championship trophy - “The Samedra Trophy”
This will hopefully be held on the deck, with a fallback location of the main hall if weather is an issue
Please try an attend if possible - we have adhoc prizes!

Plas Heli, the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, has been awarded the venue rights for the 'IRC Welsh National Championships' for 2021 and 2022. The Championship is hosted by Plas Heli, and organised/managed by CHPSC and the RDYC.
We now are recruiting volunteers for event planning purposes and if you would like to contribute, or have any suggestions to enhance the event, please reply to this newsletter. The first planning meeting was held last month via "zoom" to agree the format of racing and framework to publish the Notice of Race. This is now complete and published with the online entry open at the event website here
