Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli/Welsh National Sailing Academy : 2013 season
Summary of events, training and education activity to date : 5424 competitor days; 1223 training days and 193 taster/education days
Major International Events
• European 420 and 470 Youth championships – 272 competitors in total
20 countries were represented including competitors from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and United States.
It was the first occasion on which these championships have been held in the UK.
Financial support was received from Cyngor Gwynedd, Welsh Government’s Major Events Unit and the RYA. The event is estimated to have generated an additional £404,000 spend into the local economy.

The feedback from competitors and the international officials was positive and stated that “the overriding consensus was that the venue of Pwllheli and the sailing waters of Cardigan Bay are perfect for elite level racing”.
UK National Championships
• 420 class – 140 competitors
• Laser 2000 – 76 competitors.
The media report says “one of the best we have had – greatly enhanced by a superb club and venue, some great socials in the evening, and one of the best Race Officers we have had the pleasure to sail under”
Weekend events
• Welsh Junior and Youth Championships – 152 competitors
• Topper Nationwide Series – 128 competitors
• Laser International Qualifier Series – 96 competitors
• GP14 Welsh Area Championships – 38 competitors
Training Activity
The combined programmes of various UK, Welsh and class squads totals sailor training days to date.
Other Activities
21 students of Marine Engineering, Coleg Meirion Dwyfor achieved Powerboat Level 2 qualifications
36 Girl Guides Cymru attended a weekend watersports taster
79 pupils from 7 local primary schools attended sailing taster days
