The Restaurant was full, the food and service was excellent and all members and guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Commodore Bob Lowe outlined the many successes over the last two years before he passed the Burgee to the new Commodore Eifion Owen.
Eifion congratulated Bob on his very successful two-year tenure as CHPSC Commodore and thanked him for all his efforts as Flag Officer for the last six years and many more on the Club's Management Committee.
Eifion said 'I am honoured to take on the challenge of Club Commodore and I am looking forward to my term in office'.
Eifion thanked the social committee and the Plas Heli team for making the evening such a success.
Eifion was assisted in the presentation of the Club prizes and trophies to our club racing winners by former Commodore Gwyndaf Hughes and our new Rear Commodore Gerallt Williams.
For those who could not be present here is Eifion's speech:
"I feel the first thing I must do is to thank Bob Lowe for all the hard work he has done for Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli for the last 10 years. Thank you Margaret for allowing Bob to come here to Plas Heli more or less daily since it Opened in July 2015. We have a little something Margaret to say thank you for letting him come her
Bob’s act will be impossible to copy, so I will have to try and find another way to contribute to the club as commodore.
I will try and communicate as best as I can with all our members but I will not be able to send the birds and the bees email that Bob sent monthly. Diolch yn fawr iawn Bob.
32 Years ago when a windsurfing section of Clwb hwylio Pwllheli actually existed and when the athletes were Trevor Bacon, Anne Partington, Gwyndaf Hughes etc I used to spend hours on the beach here at Glan Don windsurfing and most of table 6 used to sit in the dunes shouting at me and John Williams to stop windsurfing in order for us to go out. Little did I imagine that 32 years later we would sitting here in one of the best sailing clubs in the world. , and more incredulous that I would be commodore , I find it both humbling and an honour being the next commodore here at Pwllheli.
Over the last 10 years I have visited many different sailing and yacht clubs in the Uk and abroad. I believe we have the best club house and facilities and we are very lucky to be here tonight.
Somebody once said “Do not ask what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club”, let's hope we won't be quoting Donald Trump in 50 years! But I believe that the more you put into the club and I help occasionally with CHIPAC the more you get out.
One lucky person in this room I know has saied in Scotland, England, France, Holland, Spain, Italy, Croatia and Turkey in the last 10 years, and he is a CHIPAC sailor, so individuals do get a lot out of this club.
We are all here tonight because of our interest in messing about on and in my case sometimes in the water , apart from table 6 , which the only nautical term they are interested in is PORT, so can I propose that we carry on with the evening, and think of absent friends, good friends and onwards to a safe and exciting 2017 here at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli.
Diolch yn fawr"
