The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy ntended for use by children up to the age of 15. Boats are usually made of fibrglass. It is one of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered.
The Optimist Nationals is the pinnacle of IOCA’s annual event calendar and some of the young sailors have spent considerable time training and competing in regattas events up and down the country in preparation for the visit to Plas Heli. But the Nationals is about much more than it – it is about participating together with hundreds of other sailors (450 Eventers plus Family ), creating experiences to be cherished.
