Dear Members,
Firstly, may I wish you all a very Happy New Year….Blwyddyn Newydd Dda and welcome to the January flag officers newsletter.
May I start by passing my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mark Thompson, as previous commodore, for the excellent work he has done, representing our club, and keeping it literally ship-shape! Mark has kindly agreed to remain on our committee as General Secretary, so remains involved with the club, for which we are very grateful.
And to the rest of the Flag Officers and committee team members for all their hard work over the last year. It’s been wonderful to see how our club, our ‘on the water’ events, our race fleet and social events have all grown. We welcome Vicky Cox to the position of Vice Commodore, and Mike Thorpe has accepted our invitation to step up to Rear Commodore.
2024 saw its challenges, not least of all the weather, but we have had some good reasons for celebration. We welcomed a number of new boats to Pwllheli as members. Our J70 team achieved great results at The Royal Yacht Squadron Commodores invitational regatta, which has resulted in us being invited back for the 2025 event. We held another successful IRC Welsh National Championships, and planning for the 2025 event is already well underway, and several of our members had excellent results in local and national races, such as Round Ireland and ISORA, with our cruising members also reaching far and wide to Scotland, Ireland, The Isle of Man and down to the South of Wales and England.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about the opportunities 2025 holds. With many events on the horizon, upgrades to Plas Heli and our club facilities, and plenty of adventures to be had on and off the water, I can't wait to hear of another year of unforgettable experiences from you all.
So, as we bid farewell to 2024 and sail into 2025, your flag officers all extend our warmest wishes for a prosperous and joyful New Year to each of you and your loved ones.
May the winds be at your back, the waves calm, and your sails always full.
Warmest regards - Hwyl
