Bore Da - Good Morning

Welcome to this February Edition of the CHPSC e-newsletter.

It was certainly a relief to finally get some respite from the storms passing through North Wales recently, with the associated strong winds and torrential rain at times, and good to see a few more people around, making plans for the forthcoming season, and a few hardy crews venturing out for some Winter sailing. There has been a fair bit of boat trading going on with a few well known cruising and racing boats changing hands! exciting times.

The Six Nations rugby tournament games are all being shown on the club's big screen TV, and the half time snacks during the Ireland v Wales game on February 24th will be sponsored by CHPSC.

This will be a great opportunity to visit Plas Heli, enjoy the game, and pick up the 2024 calendar generously sponsored by many local supporters and businesses.

Rugby at Plas Heli

Youth sailing in the form of RYA Cymru Wales have been busy training recently, and it was great to see them out on the water, and indeed during the first weekend of February, the Celtic cup was held with Dinghy sailors attending from all the Celtic Nations, enjoying some great sailing, with Wales winning the title.

Plas Heli have been busy with facility improvements, including enhanced security infrastructure, and the installation of new pontoons and upgrades to a number of the safety Ribs. Volunteers have helped with many of these tasks, that keep costs down for everyone, and puts a bit back into youth sailing.

Volunteers are sought for a number of tasks this season, including manning the ribs and committee boats during events, and some help with site maintenance and management - anyone who can help please contact myself or Stephen via the link below.

The Easter weekend marks the beginning of the racing and cruising season for many, and CHPSC is holding a “get together” party on Sunday 31st March with live music by Jac Dobson a’r band. Sean will be putting a special menu together, and all are warmly welcome to this event, - meet the Flag Officers, the directors of Plas Heli, and of course fellow berth holders, sailors  and members from all areas of the harbour for a relaxed and fun evening.

Annual General Meeting - is on Easter Saturday 30th March at 10.00hrs - see notice below.

Membership Renewal: - Please help us by renewing your membership early.

Membership fees are due on 1st January, however as in previous years, we have allowed benefits to be extended to the end of February.

Dinghy Compound Storage - The CHPSC dinghy section is growing year on year, and the storage compound is available for the storage of members' dinghies.  If you already have a dinghy in the compound, now is a great time to renew your membership and pay for your annual storage. Please just visit the website (link above) and add the appropriate storage fee to your membership.

As the new season approaches, we are planning a tidy up of the compound as part of the annual maintenance and will be allocating the storage spaces for members dinghies that have been paid for.

There are now a number of dinghies that have been unpaid and unclaimed for a considerable time, (in some cases a few years!) and this spring, we will be asking their owners to ensure these are removed to make way for members dinghies, as this is a popular club benefit and resource. Any unclaimed dinghies after this point will be disposed of, so please help us by making contact with your intentions!

The codes to the dinghy compound have been changed and will only be issued to members who have paid for storage as a means of increasing security. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to remove your dinghy and we can arrange access for you to do so!

‍Message from Falmai:

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the sympathy cards and the words of condolences that we received following the loss of Richard.

All the thoughtful words and expressions of support have been a source of comfort to us as a family during this difficult time.

We deeply appreciate all the kindness that was shown to us, and the compassion means a great deal.

PLAS HELI NEWS

Plas Heli Cyf – The Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, a volunteer not for profit distribution community enterprise company, with charitable aims and where all surpluses are reinvested back into the facility for everyone's benefit.

Plas Heli
Plas Heli

2‍024 promises to be another great year for Plas Heli with many great events lined up including the IRC Welsh National Championship, SuperNova Nationals, the GP14 World Championship, IOCA Nationals, Welsh and Junior Championships, and an ILCA Qualifier Event in September 2024.

We were delighted to have hosted the Celtic Cup with competitors from Wales, Scotland and N Ireland competing. We have also hoted training camps for the ILCA Class and Techno Class (Windsurfers).  All attendees had a great time and loved the venue!

We are continuing with our program of improvements to compliment those already undertaken.

The pontoons have again been extended with four new finger pontoon, eight new electric hook-ups and the CCTV /WiFi Pole.

The perimeter flags have been purchased ready for the 2024 season - these make a significant improvement to the site appearance.

The crane has been a big benefit to the Centre, and we hope to see growth in the sports boats fleet in 2024.There have been substantial upgrades to the fleet of 12 RIBs and race management equipment.

We have more landscaping projects in the pipeline including work on Cei Heli and a new security barrier access to Cei Heli for our pontoon customers.

Plas Heli Pontoon customers now have the use of shower cabins in Caban Heli with additional works being carried out this winter.

We continue to work closely with RYA CW to provide facilities for training camps, storage, and activities, and we respect the strategic importance of the facilities for events, training and boating in Wales.

Community engagement works continues and included our work with clubs and associations, assistance with facilities for a disability boat, fundraising events, classrooms for community groups, meetings, teaching and our work with children in-need.

Catering at the centre is with our franchisee operator Sean Devlin Ltd. The service is growing in reputation, and they have built a good name for quality and customer experience.

We are reliant on volunteers and are of course, grateful for all assistance provided by our stakeholder groups and clubs and in particular the Commodore and Flag Officers of Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club.

Challenges for 2024 include energy costs and shower and toilet provision for the growing events and training portfolio.
