Sailing season is upon us!
Sitting watching snow falling just a couple of days ago and it was hard to believe that our sailing season is almost upon us. Our racing marks are once again bobbing in the bay and waiting to welcome us around various courses.

This year we have an exciting program, and are looking forward to working with both South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club (SCYC) and the Irish Sea Offshore Racing Association (ISORA) to bring variety and fun in the bay.
And for the first time, a taste of a 24hour style race in June, run over 10 hours, scores will be based on distance covered rather than simply finish time of a fixed lap. We'll probably change the start time for that race to enable is to celebrate the finish, so keep an eye on our website for up-to-date information.
For now, we start the season at Easter with a tune up on Good Friday 3rd April. It’s the ideal opportunity to check that everything is rigged and running right after the winter so not just limited to our racing skippers. Anyone is welcome to join us.
In fact the longer leg races around the bay such as Saturday’s bay race in conjunction with ISORA, offer the perfect excuse for a cruise. Pack your sandwiches and cool box of suitable beverages and come and join us in the bay. Just let us know if you intend to come out so we can give you details of the course to sail.
Sunday and Monday we go racing around our club racing marks but still keep it gentle with longer legs to get you warmed up for the season ahead.
Not got an IRC racing certificate? No worries - get your YTC handicap for cruisers (free and easy to obtain) and you may even win a prize.
Looking for advice - our club has many experienced skippers and crew with extensive cruising and racing miles with many different ports visited, so don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can point you in the direction of someone who can help.
Power boating - with so many boats out in the bay over the bank holiday, it surely is an opportunity to spectate from on the water. Snap some photos and send them in to the club and your photo may appear in our club calendar.
Whatever the activity you take part in on the water over Easter there will certainly be plenty of stories in the bar at the end of each day, so why not come and join us throughout the weekend and talk through your cruising and racing plans for the year. Our fitting out supper on Easter Sunday may be the ideal opportunity to meet new sailing friends (don’t forget to book your tickets online).
I look forward to catching up with you all soon.

As with everything these days, there is an increasing cost involved in maintaining our club marks in the bay to keep them safe. We are therefore actively looking for sponsors, either to sponsor a specific mark for the season and have your name assigned to that mark, or to simply offer donations. Please get in touch to discuss if interested.
